The Slime Queen of Mount Pearl

Mount Pearl has many interesting residents, but nothing beats the Slime Queen, who in reality, is a princess of generosity.

“I love to make slime,” said Rebecca Glavine, who is in Grade 3 at St. Peter’s Primary.

Glavine keeps a slime lab featuring glue, beads, and color.

“It has to be a wet glue and not a glue stick,” said Glavine.

Bring the slime to perfection means making sure to use the right products.

“I use Elmer's glue, white or clear glue, glitter glue, and glow in the dark glue, “said Glavine. “Then I use whatever additives I want. Beads, glitter, paint, coloring, and then I use baking soda, and contact solution. It's very important that you use Renew contact solution because we've used other brands and they do not work. It just turns to soup and not slime.”

Glavine makes the slime for a very purrrrfect reason.

“I sell slimes and I give the money that I get from the slimes to Perfect Purrs Cat Rescue Group and it helps make all the cats healthy,” said Glavine.

Glavine has been a very big cat person since she rescued two very adorable felines from the Humane Society. But she wanted to do more. So, with the help of her mom, she knocked on the door of Rick Brown and gave him the first $100 she raised.

“Earlier over Christmas, there was a knock on my door and a cute little girl told me that she had raised $100 by selling slime for the Cat Rescue Group,” said Rick Brown, a member of the Purrfect Purrs Facebook group.

The group finds and helps abandoned kittens and cats, gets them checked out by a veterinarian and places them in cat friendly homes.

“Last year we rescued and found homes for over 300 kittens,” said Brown.

The group was started by the late Jackie Martin, an animal lover from Mount Pearl. When she passed away in 2017, Brown and others took on the mission to help cats in the Mount Pearl area.

“We won’t let them go until we know that the kittens are healthy,” said Brown.

Brown believes that Rebecca has a heart of gold.

“It’s so nice to see someone so young have a big heart like that. When your child does stuff like this, that’s when you consider yourself a success as a parent,” said Brown.
